V10/E-350 Chateau - rear gear options
I wasn't sure what category this question belonged....
I've decided on the V10 over the PSD for my new van. It will be used as a daily driver, and also to pull my 8500 lb boat/trailer about 4 times a month. The launch ramp about 22 miles away.
I think 3.73's LS (for higher gas mileage) is the way to go for 95% of my driving. My concern is transmission loading/heating up when pulling the boat out of the water. My current truck (460/C6/4.10)pulls the boat out easily, but the engine spins like crazy going down the highway.
I'm not sure how much a fully gassed E-350 Wagon weighs, but I may be approaching the GCWR limit with 3.73's.
Is there a large gas penalty w/4.10's?

The E-350 w/the 3.73 has an 8600 lb tow rating, and the 4.10 has 10,200 or thereabouts. I have the 3.73 and tow a large camping trailer, but wish I had the 4.10. With the E4OD or the 4R100 you'll have no problem with spinning the engine like crazy even w/the 4.10. The overdrive makes it oh, so comfy, and that V-10 is a revvin dog anyway. So you go boy ! Get the 4.10, you'll be glad you did, Ken
