OK, I'm at a loss here-the hubcaps on my '96 F250 XLT 4x4 w/factory aluminum wheels (looks like the Budd wheels on a big rig) are really noisy, kindof like a cataa catta catta when traveling down the road. The caps, both front & rear seem to be loose but are not. No broken clips on them, either. There is nothing rattleing around inside of them, either. This is not speed related as it happen as soon as the wheel rotates. Short of laying a bead of silicone around them, which I really don't want to do, does anyone have any suggestions?
They are heavy caps . Dose your truck have the clips that mount under lugs? any way the clips fatigue and loosen up and get rattle. I don't know if can bend little. (what I did on one I had ) Or if replacement is out there.
No lug clips, more like the clips which are on the caps fit into a four-way slot in the wheel itself. They fit in there fine, but I still cannot figure out what's making the noises..

its not the hubcaps. i think i think its the wheel bearing.. i had the same trouble.. a while back... i dont know if yours is the same but.. chek the wheel bearing
I had the same caps also on a 97 XLT. Same rattle, the plastic clips wear and get loose. No fix for the rattle. Removed hubcaps and the rattle was gone. It was only on the rear wheels, the fronts were fine.
