Thumbs up More MOBIL 1 Amazement!

Here is more props for Mobil 1 oil, and a true story. I will let the merits of this speak for itself, as I saw it for myself over the weekend...

1990 Acura Legend RS. The common 4 cylinder Honda engine used in a bazillion of Acuras and Hondas.

Car was involved in a wreck, in which it was hit on the passenger side front fender area. (nobody hurt, a car ran a redlight, and clipped the Acura, crushing fender area and breaking transaxle). Totaled by insurance company. 288,000+ miles, sun faded, no rust, California car. A beater. Neglected physically, and until recently, oil changed only using Mobil 1 5w30.

As the tow truck is coming to pick it up this weekend, Valve cover removed. Absolutely spotless clean inside.
We have a owners manual log, Mobil 1 5w30, Mobil 1 oil filter (still on the car) 8845 miles since the oil and filter were changed last. I could not get over at how clean the inside of this motor is, valvecover, rocker arms, valve spings ect. Clean, like new.

Not saying other oils couldn't do this. However, Mobil 1 can and does, a great oil and no questions asked.

I can show you my 1992 BMW 325i that is absolutely spotless, like new, not even a trace of varnish. The oil, Chevron Delo 400 15W-40, and with extended drain intervals to boot, one third the price of Mobil 1.

Rubbish.

Any oil will do that with a good maintenance record.

-I guess you didn't see this in my original thread. I know that. I knew that. I was simply posting a true life experience with Mobil 1 oil, and for those who use, or is thinking about using Mobil 1 oil.

Nothing more. Nothing less. sheesh... LOL

Excellent story Ed. Those are the kind of stories I like to hear. For your next assignment I want you to find us a Ford V-8 with 300,000+ miles using Mobil 1 oil that been 9,000 miles since the oil and filter were last changed, and then compare results. If the results are the same on a V-8 (twice as many cylinders) then I'll say we have a winner with Mobil 1.

Assignment accepted. I'm on this, and will not stop until an engine is located based on your criteria. Then I will file a complete report, with analysis.

Do I turn in my expense receipts to you, for reimbursement?

Every engine is different. I had a 93 ranger 2.3 that had 150,000 miles on it. it was spotless inside with dino oil every 5,000-8,000(opps!) miles but had a 300-6 f-150 which had oil changed every 3000 miles and was pretty black at 175,000. Some engines are dirtier than others.

I also feel engines with a lot of unecessary idling time contribute to engine deposits, all other things considered and equal.

A 25 minute warm up on a 60 degree morning in a modern SUV = NOT NEEDED in other words.

So Ed--I just got an '86 F-250 5.8l 351w 186,000 mi. I just did the oil change on it, and used GTX hi-mileage 10w-30, w a Mobil 1 filter. Are you saying the Mobil 1 oil is a better choice? I got buddies who say that I'm just paying for the fancy packaging and that I should just go w/ a case of Wal-Mart special oil. I'm confused here?!

Your Castrol GTX Hi-Mileage 10w30 is a quality oil, and I have no issues with it. I'd use it.

Mobil 1 has the creditentials to back up it's claims. Apparently, I am not the only one who thinks that way, as MOBIL 1 is factory engineered and meets the strict criteria of many of the world's finest engines and those engineers who design and see into production such engines. Not just recently, but for the past 15 + years, when an oil must do so much more in an emission controlled modern engine, as compared to stock engines in the 60s or earlier.

You can just as easily install a $34 tire on your Boss 429 '69 Ford Mustang. Or you can install better tires from Michelin, Goodyear, Firestone, Bridgestone, Dunlop and Parelli for three, four times the price per tire. The generic, $34 tire will mount on the rim, air up and enable the Mustang to travel around the block or cross country.

Same thing with Mobil 1 oil and Wal-Mart's Super Tech oil. Some people cannot afford Mobil 1, and I understand. By all means seek the generic oil or a quality dino oil such as CITGO Superguard, Chevron Supreme, Phillips 66 Trop Artic, Conoco and Kendall oils.

Mobil 1 now makes a high mileage oil, which would also be a perfect choice for your '86 Ford F250's 351 V8.

YES. Easily. As long as you stay with the recommended viscosity, and the engine is free of mechanical defects, leaks.

In many cases sythetic provides additional benefits: oil pumps better when started cold, engine turns over easier at cold start up ect.

Today's modern synthetic oil are much better, then even synthetic oil 10 years ago.

I've used both Mobil 1 5w30 oil, and Royal Purple oil 5w30 oil, in my Aerostar van. 3.0 V6, 140,000+ miles. Van ran perfect, AC blowing ice cold on 107 degree summer afternoons. Freeway run, then in stop and go traffic for 45 minutes, engine never heated up. never used a drop of oil between oil changes, and it never leaked with synthetic oil.

The Aerostar is parked inside a garage every night and when not in use. Concrete garage floor, clean.

It all comes down to the cost issue, really. If price is not a problem, then using a synthetic oil will be fine in older vechiles, again, mechanically sound - engine wise. You can also substitute a quart with synthetic oil, to help boost the oil. Always use the same weight, for example: 4 quarts of Mobil Clean 5000 5w30 and 1 quart mobil 1 5w30, providing your oil change capacity is 5 quarts when you install a new oil filter.

My understanding is that synthetic oil lasts longer because it doesn't have the sulphur byproducts found in refined motor oil.

As the engine heats and cools it draws in air - which contains humidity aka water. As that moisture condenses it combines with the oxidized sulphur and forms sulphuric acid. That acid breaks down the oil.

At least that's the scoop I got.
