Ive got a 90 F-150, 302, AOD. At slower speeds (maybe 25-40) it will shake/jerk badly unless you downshift or speed up fast. Its like a shuddering maybe. Seems trans related to me and Ive been told its the converter going bad. I bought it from a co-wokers who said its done that since he bought it a few years ago. Doesnt seem to be getting any worse but its annoying. Im changing the rear seal on the motor soon so I figured Id do this while Im there.
If it was converter I'd expect it to have problems in all gears under the same conditions (load/rpm.) If it's only happening at that speed, then I would suspect something load related like plugs/distributor.
Have you noticed if there is a correlation to RPMs?

No tach, so no clue. There is nothing wrong the engine, runs perfect. It seems as if it only does it in a certain gear, which ever it might be in. I cant tell.
Then I am at a loss, because the only thing that I can think of that can cause your issue at such a narrow speed range is the engine. I guess it's time for the generic help, check for vacuum leaks and change the transmission fluid/filter. Then cause the problem as much as you can and hope it throws a code.
Even the slightest stumble will appear transmission related.
There is no vacuum control on an AOD transmission.
There is no lock up convertor either, just overdrive, and that is all done in the transmission.
Another possibility is the throttle pressure is out of whack and the shift points are too low.
Speaking of which.
What is a whack and what and how does it get out?
Engine tune? You mean tune up? Its been done. Ive already adjusted the throttle pressure and the only difference that made was it will down shift sooner so its not as bad.
