351 Heads

I have 2 351 heads one with casting C5AE and the other D5AE. Both have 1.84 intake valves. Will someone identify these for me? What Year and application were they? Thanks -- Chuck

The C5AE number means that the original application was in 1965 model year, and since the 351W came out in 1969 this is not a 351W head.

The D5AE number means that the original application was in 1975 model year. You need to include the complete casting number for further identification.

C5AE cyl head casting number. Intake valve = 1.84" >> C9OZ-6507-J >> replaced by >> D2AZ-6507-A (note: The intake valve is a FoMoCo updated part number. I could not find the original 1965 part number it replaced.) >> The matching exhaust valve should be 1.54" <<

Cylinder Head: C5OZ-6049-A >> replaced by C5OZ-6049-B >> replaced by C7ZZ-6049-C = 289 Special (HiPo) 1965/67.

Info source: 1965/72 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalog / Section 60.4 = 289 & 289 Special Engine Parts / Page 13.

Note: The 1968/70 302 HiPo cylinder head used the same 1.84" intake valve as the 289 HiPo. The same valve was also used on 1969/72 351W's. C9OZ-6507-J >> replaced by >> D2AZ-6507-A.

Only one V8 cylinder head circa 1975 used a 1.84" intake valve.

Cylinder Head: D7OZ-6049-B .. 351W ~ Used on all 1975/78 Ford passenger cars; 1975/78 E150/350's (Econoline).

Note: D7OZ-6049-B is a 1977 Ford updated part number for the 1975 cyl head.

OK - I got the wrong information, both heads are D5AE and have 1.78 intake valves, both have 351 cast in to them, one has 6D29 and the other has 6E28. I would like to know what CC these have and what was the application. Thanks -- Chuck

I'm just guessing, but I think '75 Galaxie, 60.4cc? Bill, I found reference to the D5TE (truck) head with the 1.84 intake with a 60.4cc chamber.? And the only D5 head I saw with a 1.78 intake was a 302.?? Yikes I'm lost again.
