Howdy Yall - I've been reading this forum for quite a while now, but never posted, trying to learn all I can before I buy a F250 w/7.3PSD. I'm finally ready to buy - test drove an 01 250 Lariat with 135K this afternoon, and fell in love with it. The dealer wants $17.5K - who thinks it's worth it...who doesn't?
That doesnt sound too bad at all. That all depends on how good the body is, and everything. Also its kinda hard to know how the truck was treated for the first 135K. If it had a trailer brake in it you can bet that it was a puller and was prolly chipped. Nothing wrong with that as long as regular maintaince and oil changes were done. Let us know what you decide. Good luck
It has a fold away gooseneck in the bed, and two small dings - one on the bumper and one on the tailgate. The dealer that's selling it is actually the same dealer that serviced the truck regularly for the previous owner (a former Ford employee), who apparently only towed a gooseneck trailer toting a farm tractor. Other than that, seems to be immaculate, with the exception of the plastic Powerstroke cover on top of the engine, which seems to be MIA. Dealer tells me the previous owner was meticulous with maintenance stuffs, so I can only assume everythings been taken care of as needed.

If the selling dealer did all the maintenance, ask for an OASIS report and a full set of maintenance records. If dealer says he cant provide that, then he is not being straight with you. A few keystrokes and his mainframe can spit out all the records. 17.5 sounds like a fair price, you'll want to make sure via the OASIS that the mechanical diode issue in the 01 tranny has been taken care of. If not, it could go 5k miles and let go, and then your looking at a tranny rebuild.
I do not like the depreciation on that truck. Of course I have a 01 with diode tranny. I just hate to think that my truck has depreciated that much. I paid close to 30k for mine about 6 years ago.
Having said that, what are you willing to pay to get down the road with a load? All of the advice thusfar has been good. If the PO was that meticulous, get the free OASIS report before buying along with a carfax. The dealer can get all of that. From there, decide. BTW, where are you located? This has a huge impact on the price of a used truck.
I'm in Columbia, SC, however the truck is in Bremen, GA (it's hard to find a used 250 in SC). I looked at the oasis report and the carfax at the dealership, and everything looks clean. I have to call the dealer back this morning and check on the build date of the truck - I'm not sure whether it's part of the diode tranny build or not.
Price sounds pretty good, compared to the prices up here in New England. $16K would be a steal so $17 is ball park. My 99 cost me $13K with 134K mi on it, as a baseline, but it was neglected and needed some work on the drivetrain, steering, etc. Motor was strong and that was all I needed.
These heavy trucks seem to be hard for the dealerships to move, especially the gassers, diesels are holding their value a little better. Face it, fuel prices are driving these trucks down in value. Bio Diesel is helping out anything with a diesel engine though. Post pics when you pick it up!
sounds like a fair price to me I paid $18000 for a F-350 cc 4x4 LB lariat but it was imaculate and well maintained. Is it a cc or sc, long or short box
