Car trailer refinishing with paint or bed liner?

I posted in the paint section as well:

I have an all steel open car hauler. It needs some cleaning up and painting. I have been driving myself nuts looking at rust converters and roll-on bed liners?

Anybody ever coat the runways and fenders of a steel trailer with a DYI bed liner. My concerns are spilling gas and hot sticky race tires on the liner. Sound like a good idea or not?

I am leaning towards just using a roll on Rustoleum paint.

Well I've heard of people using roll-ons in areas where they need traction, such as on parts of a boat or trailer where you might walk, etc., as well as one instance of painting the bottom foot or so on a car.

What I would question though, is that the Herculiner bed liner I applied to my truck bed had thousands of little pieces of rubber, which creates a really rough surface, which of course won't help gas mileage any.

Why not just get a urethane paint.... seems like it would be cheaper....

I've used DIY bedliners in trucks before and was not impressed. I just painted my all steel 12' flatbed trailer with Gloss Black Rustoleum that I rolled on. Looks good and didn't cost much.

BTW before I painted the trailer, I pressure washed it, sanded it, washed it again and let it sit for a couple days to dry. Then I painted it.
