Axle travel

My dana44 axles have a bit of travel (in and out that is) how much travel should i have if any at all? I do get a rattle in the front end. Ive checked and everything is tight but the axles. I was wondering if the c-clips in my diff came out? Any ideas. Oh and Im experimenting with my 300-6 if all goes well i should get around 500hp out of it by theory. Ill keep you updated.

If the clips come out then you're fubar. The axles will slide out of the tubes. There's probably something else in the pumpkins that's a little loose.

How much travel?

more then a "feel" and I would pull the cover and check the center pin for wear.
