Carb replacement for 223 I-6

Anybody have any great ideas for replacement of a 1904 Holley? Mine's freshly rebuilt and still is somewhat unreliable. The accel pump circuit is crummy, and the linkage has been giving me fits. Anybody have any quick thoughts about what kind of an improved carb would work? Doesn't need to bolt up, I can fabricate an adaptor....

I purchased a reman 1904 from NAPA and have nothing but great sucess. I suggest you give it a thought, as the carb was just over $100 and only a $9 core charge. This allows you to keep your old one for spare parts.

You can buy all the linkage parts for these pretty cheaply, from several vendors. Before you give up on yours, it might be worth putting a few more bucks into it.

That said, I am so sick of my Holley 94 (flathead carb) that I intend to pursue throttle body EFI with a MegaSquirt puter. Better mileage, consistent idle, no fuel spilling on the manifold... it would be heaven! As usual, the only barriers are time and money...

I'm out in left field here, but does it mount the same as a carter YF? If so, you can get a 2bbl adapter(clifford) and throw a motorcraft 2150 on it and a Lokar throttle cable. But again, left field.

Mine is giving me fits too, but the glass bowl look is pretty cool. I finally got the bowl to quit leaking, with an almost surgical reinstallation of the bowl. When it's "on" it's "on" and runs great. When it's vapor locking, puking fuel onto the hot exhaust manifold, or dying I can't stand it!

This might be the more expensive route, but at least you'll get to use a modern day carburetor.

Ahem. I never have a bit of trouble with my single-barrel.

As a sidenote, the Clifford intake is water heated, which is what regulates the fuel/air mix preventing ice-up in the winter. Maybe it works on vapor lock, too? I'm making my own out of an aluminum block that'll mount under my 300's intake w/efi exhaust.

I would turn off the water heat in summer, it may cause vapor lock.
