Sorry I can't do the comparo, but I have the Nitto's and have been impressed with the ride and handling, plus relatively low road noise for an AT tire. I haven't been in any really slippery situations such as ice or mud to rate the off road traction, but very impressed on road.
The salesman at the local tire shop told me that Toyo owns Nitto. The Toyo off road tire was almost 30 cheaper than the Nitto tire. Not too sure on how the compare, but I would assume that they are similar.
I've done both the Toyo and I have Grapplers on my truck right now. I do a lot of serious 4 wheeling; sand (back home on south padre island), 1/2 foot deep mud, river entrances (at the ranch) and I can honestly say that the Grapplers take control. Toyo's are good all-terrains but they burn down on the pavement too quickly, even more so if you have windy roads.
But when I did replace to toyos I kept the stock tire size 275*65r18 moving up to a 325*60r18 for the grapplers!
