So, how much money did Daimler really lose?

Maybe it's a result of cost cutting, and NOT making the huge $$$ design changes that the media blasts them for. F150 is waxing the Tundra.
Hope this continues. I've always liked Ford -- why, I don't know. Probably because I loved the shoebox Fords when I was little.
As for the comparison between Jag etc, and DCX -- Daimlier (sp?) did nothing but suck money out of Chrysler. Between taking profits, and dictating that everything should support higher Mercedes sales, they're lucky that anything's left.
On the other hand, I think that FoMoCo was hoping that Jag would give them some prestige cars -- never really happened as far as I could tell. So they probably have to dump them -- and maybe they need Volvo to sweeten the pot.
Just my opinions

What I think sucks in a lot of ways...
With Jaguar, the product is there, and it is good quality.
If they sell Volvo or Land Rover, I would almost be willing to hang my blue oval cap up.
They have the 2 most critical companies here to the companies brand image and sales success - and they are considering selling them.
Volvo has the safe image covered, and is selling vehicles hand over fist, and has a brilliant product line up.
Land Rover has the best premium 4x4 reputation, and great line up (although an updated Defender I think is critical in emerging markets). It has had record sales in the last few years.
Jaguar, I could understand them selling - even if there is still hope, I would understand it as a business decision. But they have really good cars, they just don't happen to sell.
I think they probably need to reinvent themselves like they did in the late fifties, a new XKSS car to take on the likes of a F430/GT3 would certainly be an image builder.
Lexus has its hybrids, BMW its "driving machine", Mercedes has half a dozen models with 600hp and more torque than DOHC's beloved duramax, and Audi has its "chiseled from granite" styling and build and materials quality that is unparalleled.
Jaguar has what? Its heritage.
And its heritage styling isn't winning buyers.
