A contribution code doesn't necessarily mean an injector. It just means that a particular cylinder isn't outputting an equal amount of power as the rest. In this case it's bent pushrods that are the culprit on two cylinders. If, for example (and thank God we don't) had a misfiring sparkplug it would show it as a contribution code (maybe something else on a gas burner--just an example). Make sense?

Did you have any other indication that there was a problem with your motor? You have me a little scared now. My truck is at 216800km. I just installed Hot Shot Service on the weekend to see if it clears up some rough idle and cold start issues. I'll be posting results in the HSS post soon.

Good luck with the upgrades.

After the original few posts I was thinking bent connecting rods also, so a contribution code from an injector would be plausible. Hey--anything is possible. That's how accidental discoveries are made right??

Here we go with an update finally.

Can you spot the difference in these two injectors? :P Lost an oring nearest the bottom of the injector. We couldnt find it. It probably desinigrated when entering the cumbustion chamber.

More pics to come of the bent push rods!

OK, BAD NEWS NOW! Follow up below.

Recently, I had new injectors put into the engine. The truck started and shaked like a ****. Took it for a drive and shaked lots when hit around 80 km/h. Thought it was a bad seal on one of the injectors. Put it back together and still did the same thing. Turns out that cylinder 6 and 4 are weak. After he told me that its a lot of time and money to fix. So the solution he gave me was to replace the ENTIRE engine.

Good news, found an engine out of a written off truck for $5000 with 32,000 km on it. And about $2500 in labour costs.

Bad news, I just bought a house and I dont know if I can be accepted for a loan.

More bad news. I still owe a hefty price on the truck so trading it in would actualy cost me more for a new truck.

If I go the route and buy the new/used engine, I can throw in the new injectors, head studs, and gaskets. Maybe possibly sell any left over parts to pay off the loan if i do get accepted.

Well, thats all for now. I need to pour myself a stiff drink and clear my head.

Reidicus,

I would recommend you call and talk with Matt before you decided which way to jump. He may have some more insight into your problem.

Did you replace all the pushrods or just the ones that appeared bent?

Also what does your mechanic mean about cylinders 4&6 being weak? Does he mean low compression or what? Has your mechanic done a cylinder leak down test?

Also what cylinders originally had the bad injectors?

I never really got into the details yet. I will ask and im not sure if there were any pushrods that were bent or not. I will phone him back on more information here before any final decisions are made. Shop already closed down and cant get ahold of him at the moment. All I know is that a code was comming up for cylinder #6 low compression/balance fault.

Get all the info you can from your mechanic and the tests he has performed and then speak with Matt before making any decisions.

get a manual compression test done on 4 and 6. 350 to 400 psi is fine on a cold engine
