The bottom line??
It's like a freakin' broken record..........Ford needs some exciting drivetrain upgrades.
Hurricane/Boss with 6 speed anyone???

Ford and GM are attempting to sell to the same market with a very different approach. Gm is trying to convince people that a fancy SUV can be converted nto a real truck and Ford is trying to convince people that a foprd pickup truck can be converted into a luxury vehicle.
If you want a "truck" to ride around in, carry passengers and occasionally haul a little something, either is fine. If you want a truck to use as a truck to haul stuff and get dirty, neither is fine.

[QUOTE=DOHCmarauder]On one hand I'm upset that the Lincoln doesn't have something to REALLY set it apart from the 150.........on the other, it is $12,000 or so cheaper than the Caddy (but I'd bet the GMC narrows that gap)

I went down to the local dealerships for these respective vehicles the other day, I think Wednesday. I asked the sales person working with me what type of person actually buys these behomoths. Almost word for word they said the same thing. People that don't need the features of the vehicle and those same people are the ones that can least afford them.
Now then, the quality of both is on the rise according to JD Power and another outfit (mentioned on FTE in another thread). The quality of the Ford products is higher than any of it's competitors EXCEPT Honda and Toyota, and the Ford products are only a few point behind the Toyota products. GM is a distant 4th or 5th, I forget. Interesting but not conclusive.
Final word on this, take it anyway you want. The Cadillac dealer sales rep drives a two year old Navigator, he bought it new. The Lincoln sales rep drives a Fusion, and thinks these big pigs are a joke. Go figure.

The Caddy dealer rep used to work for a Ford Dealer when he bought his Navigator and thought the grass would be greener on the other side. ( maybe it is, maybe it isn't )
As for the Lincoln rep, you might have found a car saleman with a concience and can't fathom anyone paying that amount of money for a glorified F-150.
Just my .02, trying to get the brain going this morning......

Get enough coffee now? My post was in the middle of the night, at work waiting for something to break, so I'm surprised it actually isn't incoherent.

I like them too, just not enough to buy and feed that V-8. The guy that bought the Fusion wanted some interior room and good fuel economy. Probably what my wife will get to replace her 98 Escort Sport. As if that thing would ever die!

My question to you is, who would you buy a new F-150 from, the salesperson who drives a Focus to work or the salesperson who has the new Silverado sitting outside.

Besides, once the sales person finishes with you, you get turned over to the team leader, who turns you over to the T/O person, who turns you over to the GSM. By the time you've gone thru the usual merry-go-round of car sales ppl, you can barely remember what the heck you are buying.
Most customers have NO klew what car sales ppl drive, so what's the big deal? If you ask them what they drive, what do you thing the answer will be? Do you think "honest" Charlie will be truthful? If someone believes what car sales ppl tell them, I got a bridge for sale, and some nice cheap tropical land 30 miles off the coast of Antarctica!
Salesperson works for Ben Dover Motors, which sells a gazillion different makes, so they could be driving anything.

Bill,
Your right, who really cares what the salesman was driving. But as an employer, you would like to know that if you are treating your employees with respect and compassion, they won't "bite the hand that feeds them".
Even though we don't know any other facts about the example given, it's the way I am taking it......

Guys, I was just trying to bring a little persective to this thread. We all have opinions as to which is best for the buck. I thought it was interesting that a sales rep for a Caddy dealer drove a Lincoln. Why? I beleive he said his wife wanted it, so he bought it for her. She didn't like it after a while...$ of gas maybe? Who knows, I don't. Would I trust him? No more and no less than any other sales rep., all you have to do is look at what auto/truck sales people drive. The fact that he can buy a Navigator is testiment to his professionalism. He is good enough to know enough about the products he sells that he can give the customer the feeling of confidence and knowledge. I mean, do you really want to buy a truck from someone that drives a Cavalier to work because that is all he can afford? Doesn't sound very knowledgeable to me. He is driving a beater, not a real vehicle.
Beyond that statement. If he works sells F-150s and drives a Fusion. It's up to me to figure out if the offer on the vehicle that I have decided that I want is something that I should buy. Not the sales rep's. I am the one to write the checks to pay for it after all...
