Have pulled with both motors, the 460 out worked the v10. Would choose a 460 any day as far as fuel wow one gets 9 the other gets 10... The E40 is basically the same thing as the 4r100 talk to a trans guy. Not biased just what I have experienced...
Sadly I am. I can't remember the actual thread engagement length off the top of my head, but it is somewhere in the 5mm range. With a 14mm threaded fastener, they should have about 12mm of thread engagement.

Jesus, are my buddies down in dearborn really that retarded? i mean, cast iron is one thing, but aluminum? I hope I hope my '04 has more than 5mm of engagement!
If you have a mid '01 and 5.4 up you should have "PI" heads with 8 threads. Do a search for "PI" heads.
As for the 460 swap. I'd like to see it done by someone who can do it right. You'll need to get the PCM and as many wiring harnesses as possible from a donor truck. You'll need to fab an air intake and mount for the MAF. You'll need to find upper and lower radiator hoses, fabricate a fan shroud, motor mounts and exhaust. It shouldn't be too complicated.
Even though I'm a V10 guy, I've had a 460 and liked it. This swap, in my opinion, is very do-able and should work out well.
Instead of a 460, youd probably have an easier time taking your 5.4L and putting a stroker kit in it. You can easily increase it to a 6.0L torque monster and not have to worry about makng a 460 fit and work with the truck's computer.
