Hey everybody, I'm starting to swap out my big block 400 with a 6.9 diesel in my 76 f350 4x4. I was just wondering how many people have done this before, and what kind of problems you ran into so i can be prepared. I've got the np435 granny tranny which seems like it'll bolt right up. So far, the only problem i've seen is the difference in engine mounts. Any thoughts?
I was looking for a 6.9 or 7.3 for my 75 F250, but found a company called FordCummins and they sold all the parts to install a 5.9 cummins. It took alot of time, but I am really happy with it. Their site is fordcummins.com
I personally wouldn't do the swap you are wanting. I am planning on doing the same swap as jovainc but can't decide on what trans/t-case I want to use. There are several places to buy parts from, I will probably use fordcummins.com for the motor mounts, but their adapter plates are junk, destroked.com is a much better source I would say. If you are doing the swap on a budget and with the parts you have on hand, more power to you. I can't imagine the swap being that difficult, just might have to notch the front crossmember. Let everyone know how it turns out.
Thanks for the replies, the first thing i looked at actually, was putting a 3.9 or 5.9 cummins in the truck, but i happened to come across a running 6.9 for $50, I just couldnt turn it down. Rings and bearings and i've got a brand new motor. Anyway, I'll keep you posted on how it turns out.
