Lightbulb True size of the 5.4 -at least close to it!

I know this an old thread but it comes up in searches... The 5.4 triton has a bore of 3.552 inches and the stroke is 4.165 = When you calculate the volume you get 41.272. 8 cylinders = 330.17 cubic inches. But the volume also has to include the space around the piston down to the first compression ring. I can calculate that and it is not much but with 8 spaces around the cylinders you will end up closer to 331 Cubic inches than 330. If we are talking actual volume for combustion then you have to include ll of the space. there are no valve depression to consider. The pistons are flat. Most calculators do not truly calculate the actual volume in each cylinder. You cannot calculate it accurately by just saying 5.4 liters = ? cubic inches. The 5.4 designation is general and not precise. So, the most realistic number, assuming you round to the closest amount of volume, you would call it a 331 engine. Rounding down you can call it a 330. But it is definitely more than 329. And it is nowhere near 351...

I just replaced the whole front side - cams, chains, high pressure oil pump, sensors, guides, adjusters and more. $1,500 worth of parts. She is running like the wind. 110 lbs of oil when it is cold. No problems with seals 5,000 miles later. It is a great engine when you get rid of some of the Ford parts.

What kind of pictures are you looking for? My 05 only has 5.4 on the intake - no cu. in. size. My 77 was built prior to Ford placing engine size in liters, so the original valve cover sticker indicates 351M/400.

351M is a tall deck Cleveland motor. Completely separate from the 351W
