Alright guys I'm going to need your input on this...
First, Have any of you heard of exiting the exhaust before the passengar rear tire on a F250/350?
I was under my truck the other day and looked at the "N" shaped spiral of stock exhaust tubing that loops around the spare tire area...and I was thinking how much of a resistance that is for the exhaust. So I was thinking about trying the new exit out to see how it improves the EGT's before getting a 5" system. What do you guys think
Ryan, a couple of guys have tried this (see David Lotts Snow White), the only problem I could see is a lot of soot on the wheel. I would just pull an old drag racers trick and just turn it down under the truck right where a stock muffler would go.
Its not really a problem back that far. All the curves do is dampen the sound. Longer pipe makes the exhaust deeper. I ran with just exhaust back past the trans x-member for a while and the whistle was sweet, however it lacked any bit of throatiness or deep tone which i like. You'll basically only have three bends in the system so it will make the whistle alot more apparent. If your EGT leaving the turbo is 900*, i'm willing to place a bet that by the time it gets back to the rear axle, its cooled off enough that those bends won't hurt anything.
I cut mine off just in front of the muffler and added about a four foot piece of 6" chrome turnout off a 18-wheeler. The pipe is turned to the ground. It does echo back to the cab a good bit when running 70mph pulling a 10,000lb trailer, but what good is a quiet powerstroke? Yes everthing on the passenger side is black under there as well, and i have not ever notice the exhaust smell in the cab.
I had the exact setup you are talking about and it was loud. No difference in EGTS between all the exhaust setups(side exit before tire, dumped behind the trans xmember like kris said, stacks5"turn outs, 7"mitres) i have tried. Ive always had a 4"dp on sincei bought the truck. The only downside to the side exit is a black rim. The tire always look good black, but an aluminum rim looks like crap.
