Been around them since they came out! Been here for well over 20+ years! If it pushes more oil to the top than it can return, must be sludge build up. As far as half a quart overfull, I wouldn't worry either won;t argue just stating 6 qt. is what is recommended.

I am a firm believer that the manuals are much too standardized, the dipstick is the true object to measure by, that said mine takes 7qts to be filled properly according to the dipstick that the engine was made with, the standardized manuals on the other hand do not distinguish between an engine with the remote mount filter, like mine, and one with a block mounted filter. Just the extra 4-6' of hose going to and from the remote mount are going to need that extra oil so it does not take away from the oil pan capacity. In many many cases there is what some desk jockey wrote the book to say and there is the real world where the book is just plain wrong.

The '05 6.0L also comes to mind where the book is totally wrong on the oil level required.

200K+ miles on stock 5.4L always running 7qts with NO problems.
