what's the truck's specs? does it have a limited slip rear end? i don't know if friction modifier "breaks down", but it sounds like your rear end clutches chattering in the LS.
One of our shop trucks a 99 F350 V10 150,00mi with a limited slip after about 50,000 mi had some rearend noise. We changed the fluid and it made it act like new for another 50,000mi. It is just starting to act up now again. Could be a simple fix, but you never know. like bbender said I don't know if the friction modifier breaks down either.
mine done that really bad at about 10k mi dealer changed fluid, noise went away so did posi
was going to put in new clutches but must have been TSB ford said replace carrier
everything good still clunks in turns after 3 oil changes
got 119k mi now
Under heavy power, mine jutters and skips the back end of the truck around. Both tires are locking up and trying to spin at the same speed.
The ring and pinion shouldn't skip or slip, I've had one do it and it's bad. The slipping should be at the tires. On a turn the rear tires have to spin a different speeds to keep traction, if they are locked together then the tire must give. I believe if the diff is failing, then it should default to right side power in forward gears. I am no expert, but if changing the fluid doesn't help/cure it, then you need to look back up the driveline.
