Part Number for Steering Column

I am looking for a part number for the column side of the rag joint on a tilt steering column from a 1978 F100/350 2wd. I saw it in a diagram posted by Mil1on (73-79 Forum Urgent - help needed w/tilt steering). The number on the diagram is 3A528. I need the entire ford number to find this part. I was looking for the bottom bearing and keeper as well, but I found it through a post from NumberDummy in the same thread(D3TZ-3D681-A .. Lower SteeringColumn Bearing & Retainer Kit).<O</O

I am installing this column in a 1971 F250. the coupler that I need seems to be pressed on to my original column.<O</O

<O</O

Thanks

Chad

You're looking for the column side coupler for a 78/79 tilt column ?

How many would you like ?

This is what is on your Non-Tilt column..right?

No tilt wheels were offered on F Series trucks till 1978. You can't convert an earlier column to tilt (AFAIK...Mil1ion will know for sure). You have to change the entire column to one from a 1978/79..with 2WD. The 4WD tilt columns are different.

OK so now I am looking for the lower Retainer and bearing assembly (D3TZ-3D681-A .. Lower Steering Column Bearing & Retainer Kit) again.

Direct Ford Parts took my order yesterday but then e-mailed me today saying “Thank you for contacting us but I'm sorry to say that Ford has discontinued this part and no dealer has any left in stock”.

So is there a replacement part or do I need to fabricate something?

The parts are available as separate pieces. I'm surprised (well, not really ) that the partsman didn't tell you that.

What are you working on...2 or 4WD steering column? From a 1978/79 or earlier?

The parts ARE available.

C3DZ3517A .. Lower Bearing

E2TZ3518A .. Lower Retainer NOTE: replaces D1AZ3518A

I just checked DIRECTFORDSPARTS online parts locator. Both numbers are good. NAPA carries the bearing, I'm not sure about the retainer. If the bearing doesn't come well lubricated, use white grease to do so.

Note: C3DZ3517A is also used 1961/79 as an upper and sometimes lower bearing on F100/350's, Econolines, Falcons, Mustangs and dozens of other applications.
