I have a 1973 F-250 with a 360, when I am on the highway after approx. 20 miles or so the truck seems like it runs out of gas I pull over it starts back up and goes fine untill I reach 60 mph then seems like it runs out of gas again.
On the back roads I never have a problem..
I am fighting the exact problem. It never done that crap intil the summer temps got 85+. I moved the steel fuel line away from the short rubber hose by my water pump and it helped a little. I think that we might be fighting vaporlock.I am running the same year and same motor as you are.
You might also check to make sure that your gas tank vent is not obstructed. There is a chance that your truck is running good until the tank builds up too much vacuum for your fuel pump to work right. The next time it acts up try taking off the gas cap temporarly to see if this resolves your issue.
This happened to me before. I replaced the electronic ignition module with a Ford unit and it went away.
Might want to consider one from a junkyard truck, so if it doesn't happen to fix, you aren't out much money, and you get a spare unit in the end.
I went through two aftermarket units that lasted a couple months, but when going back to a Ford unit, problem never came back.
A while back I posted that my truck would somtimes act like it was running out of gas however I would have plenty of fuel in the tank.... I tried everything I thought it might be vapor lock.... Fuel pump...collapsed line but no after every time I tried somthing it would eventually happen again. Well yesterday I took the sending unit out (1973 Hi boy in cab tank) and looked in with a flashlght, at first I didnt see anything.. I diconnected the fule line and blew air threw looked agfain and there it was... a cardbord top from some sort of additive (dry gas or somthing) I fished it out and didnt have a problem all day yesterday...I think I got it!
