Grounding Straps?

I'm having some problems with the electronics, and was told that it sounds like a ground problem.Does anyone on here know where the ground would be?How many?and would it be a single wire or would it be a strap?Thank you,I know this is an electrical question, but I felt like this board would know more about my truck.'79 F-150

there are grounds that go from the firewall to the back of the intake, the bed should be grounded through the frame, the harness should be grounded to the cab behind the cluster, and im sure theres more, thats all i can think of.

Just add your own ground and try it! :)

ps- it'd be better if you had a meter but that's for another thread (or later in this thread?;)

My '74 Explorer also has a ground strap from the back edge of the hood to the firewall as well.

On mine it has a bare (maybe galvanized steel or aluminum) braided wired with terminal connectors on each end. If you wanted to go completely original I would imagine Dennis Carpenter or Blue Oval has them and they shouldn't be too expensive.

Just to share a grounding story...Buddy of mine owns a Suburban. Blew the motor on a trip out to California a while back. Had to have it trailered back blah, blah, blah. He's a Service Manager at a local garage. He and I were going to do the repairs but he let one of his sublings do it. Said subling (also a mechanic) forgot/failed to attach most grounds to include battery ground. Truck did start but ran rough like the timing was off. Ray and I fiddled with it a little one night for a few minutes, but was getting late so we called it a night. Time goes by. Truck runs bad. Things go bad. Computer goes bad. Bad mechanic. Oh, and Ray, nice guy that he is, let said bad mechanic take their other car which needs head gaskets. Sure has been gone a while...I'll be looking for that one at the races next week in the bomber class.
