Question Vin number help

I just purchased a 1979 Ranchero and I can't seem to get any of the decoders to accept my Vin. Could anybody breakdown the code 9H48F148093 for me. I would appreciate the help or redirection to a decoder that works for older Trucks. Thanks

Welcome to FTE

9 = 1979

H = 351M 2V

48 = Body Style: 97R / Ranchero GT

F = Dearborn Michigan Assembly Plant

148903 = Numerical Sequence of Assembly

All the other information on your VIN plate can be decoded too.

You have those backwards:

H = Lorain

F - 302 2v

Yeah, you're right...first VIN like this I've decoded in 10 years...so my memory isn't too good.

I'll let you do all the cars VIN decodes from now on.

I appreciate the information from both of you. My "NEW" toy should be delivered tomorrow. I was wanting to know the engine type. Which you have answered. If when I get it here I might ask for help with the rest of the vin plate, but fornow I have what I was looking for. The vin decoders, even the ones made for 11 digit older vins did not recognize the number. Thanks again Jpat414
