Benefits to removing red line from wastegate?

I'm trying to figure out if I'm supposed to have the red line off the wastegate after installing my Xcal2 programmer? I removed it and the SES light came on with the first WOT run(due to overboost I'm sure) and so I stopped and plugged the line back onto the wastegate and the SES light hasn't been back on since and the truck feels just as strong as with it unhooked.

When I unhook mine I get extreme turbo surge and the truck runs like crap. I hooked it back up and have left it alone ever since.

Have you had any overboost codes with it hooked up or do you already have some sort of boost fooler in place?

if you was in it hard.. you could have set the SES light off by asking for more fuel then the HPOP could give it..if the turbo boost is too high it will defuel the truck...

Yeah there are no codes stored in the computer, but the SES light came on after a WOT hit and then went off about a mile later and hasn't been back on since I hooked the wastegate line back up.

i have the ts performance chip and with my waste gate connected i could get over boost codes even in the 75 setting. I just installed my home made boost fooler and i can run wot with no ses. It is very exciting to run like that without defueling. I didnt think my truck could do that i had a grin on my face for a couple hours.

I have never thrown a code, ever. I don't have the boost fooler but do have an overboost relief. I am thinking of switching that out to the Annihilator though.

When I originally bought my super chip they sent me a piece of tubing with a small hole in it and said to intstall in line with the waste gate line? I did, I guess it works, If i remove the redline I get the SSES light at WOT!

I have the ITP OBA and I yanked my wastegate line to see what the difference was. Seems like the turbo really likes to get up above 20psi pretty quickly now. The only codes I get are when I'm really into it and the HPOP can't keep up...

The reason for the red line.

A wastegated turbo is designed to reach maximum boost sooner then a conventional turbo, but overboosting will cause damage to the turbo. The PCM will control the boost pressure by duty cycle to the solenoid to maximize boosting performance (no more than 16-1/2 psi). When pressure is supplied on the red hose going to the actuator (solenoid NOT energized) the valve will open, dumping boost. When low or no pressure is on the red hose going to the actuator (solenoid is being energized), the valve will stay closed.

In completely stock form that is what the PCM tries to control it to, but the turbo is capable of well over that, although 25psi is about the limit of its efficientcy.

The 470 code is for the EBP sensor, you might want to clean the tube from the exhaust manifold to the sensor it's probably getting clogged with soot.
