Talking Buying a 2003 Ford Ranger FX4

I am thinking about buying a 2003 Ford Ranger FX4. I am also probably going to lift it about 14 inches with: Suspension, Body and some BIG tires. If anyone knows about the brands of lifts that are best please let me know.

Lift kits for the new rangers are very expensive, I could understand maybe a 4" lift, but what does anyone need 14" for? 4" lift will allow you to run up to a 35" tire, anything bigger is about useless except to look at. Body lifts look hoaky as they leave gaging between the body and frame as well as the body and bumpers. I would save up for a Dixon Brothers lift kit, as thier about 3,500 bucks, but it's about the best, race proven and all. A set of 35's and call it a day!!!!!

OK a ranger of anysort that high off the ground will end up just like most jeeps that are lifted that high. FLIPPED. The truck is way to light and way to darn small to be putting any kind of lift that big. You would also have to change the front and rear axles to still be able to drive on the highway with that big of tire depending on how large you go. I had a 99 with 6 inchs of lift and that was WAY MORE THEN ENOUGH. If you want to go that large of a lift you should have baught a fullsize pickup with a crew cab. just my 2 cents though

I totally agree c185, the fx4 level II is a very capable offroad package stock, I would crank the torsion bars a hair to level the truck, slap on a set of 33" bfg at ko's and hit the trails. I cranked my t-bars and I'm running 32" bfg's and works great on and offroad.

I just really think its extremly tacky to do body lifts. and even more tacky to lift a small pickup that high off the ground and very unsafe. I put the 3' spindles on the front of my 99 and cranked the torsion bars. and put a 3' block and 1 add a leaf to the rear. and was running 32' bfg's very offroad worthy and didnt look bad.

I began thinking about it and that is true. Thank you for all of you comments. Is there anything else that I should do with the Ranger?

If that is your truck in the picture i just saw that truck is already good to go why would you want to go changing even more on it. Exhaust,Intake, Performance chip. All that good stuff. that will make your ranger worth while

I would lift, however i would not go that big. 14 Inches on a little truck will probably be very unstable.

I voted yes to lift it, but once i read 14" i would like to retract that vote. If you would be willing to settle for a 2-4" lift then i would agree with you. i dont see why soo many people want to lift their trucks soo much....its a total waste IMO.
