'97 F-250 axle swap and gearing (Need advice)
I have a ’97 F-250 HD 4x4 with a 4” lift with leaf springs. I plan to swap the front IFS TTD axle with a solid axle. I found one from a ’91 F-350. I was wondering if this would be an easy swap. Will this axle simply bolt up to me F-250? Or will I need some modification? I got everything below the springs, the steering linkage, track bar and bracket, U-bolts and brackets.
Also, this axle from the F-350 has 3.54 gears. My truck has 4.10s. I have two options I think. 1) Can I replace the 3.54 gears in the solid front axle with the 4.10s from my ITS TTD axle? Or, 2) do I install 3.54s in the rear?
I will not be using the truck for towing.
Thanks

This is a realitively simple swap, and can be much easier with the help of this;

This will provide some lift, and there is a kit available that provides even more. This reverse shackle along with your solid axle can really make a difference between a truck that rides well, or is just another truck. Rear swing shackles are the way to go.
You may also look around the offroad forum under "SAS". This is "solid axle swap", and has been addressed quite extensively. There are a few tech articles on this exact topic.
Good luck.
