Hey Guys. Newbie here to the forum and to Diesel ownership(97 F350). I want to start my Mods with a intake and exhaust system. I was wondering if anyone had any input on the Power Tube being offered by MBPR?
Thanks, Reek
From the sounds of it you install it int he exhaust as close to the turbo as you can. Like at the end of the downpipe. To say the least I am sceptical. I don't see how that unit can add 10 hp and 19 ft lbs of torque. Any body know how much it costs?
That diesel pro link has some dyno graphs for a duramax. But for those gains at that price they must be dreaming! Add another $100 to that and get you some DIY stage's 1 injectors and get 5 times the power.
Okay, Im not totally sold on the thing either which is why I posted in the first place. But being a guy of science, it is theoretically possible for such a device to do what it says. The venturi effect is a real phenomenon and is currently used in many applications. Read about it here: http://library.thinkquest.org/C01220...turiEffect.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venturi_effect
TJ, your point is well taken about the stage 1 injectors, but Im new to the game and
am just starting off with the required first mods such as Tymaresq intake and improved exhaust (4"pipe ,3" DP, meowless.. you know the deal). As long as Im doing the exhaust anyway is why this Power Tube thing came up in the first place. I just wish I could find someone who has real world experience with it.

HA ... I'm gonna have to raise the BS flag on this one. I'm with TJ for a little more $$ you could get DIY's or something else that'll give you more bang for your buck. Nothing against MBRP but that's nothing but a pure profit maker there. Lord .... I'm gonna produce my own Power Pipe mine will be 5" and I'll paint it RED. I'll sell it for $99.00 each.
Yes I agree that the venturi effect works. But it is only efficient in certain applicaitons, and I don't see it adding the posted HP numbers in this application.
I agree, it's snake oil. I don't under stand how you can add a restriction to anything and increase the flow. It reminds me of the Tornado that's added to the intake. BTW: I can make a dyno read just about anything you want with the HP and TQ jusr by changing a few correction factors. Even a good dyno and operator will get a variance on HP and TQ from one pull to the other, on the same engine w/o any changes. I've made pulls within 15 minutes of one and other and saw that much change as they are trying to sell (10 hp and 19 TQ)
I am no expert in the physics of Fluid but I would have to think that such a device (used to make the exhuast spin instead of just go straight) would only be affective until the first turn, gutted cat or muffler even straight thru mufflers. That would limit its use in all of our exhuast systems. I could see the possibility of it working some but not enough to make the cost offset the gain. If it were a $50 item sure give it a shot. I like to see dyno tests from people who have no vested interest in the product. Also the dyno graphs that were posted aren't real clear to me what is being run. Is it stock exhuast vs. the complete exhuast system in the first graph with out this dohickie and the second stock exhuast vs complete 4" system with dohickie. I think the best graph to show would be xyz 4" without dohickie and xyz exhuast with dohickie. I want to see that graph.
