a/c problem

Hey guys, anyone know if one of the maxi-fuses under the hood has anything to do with the a/c compressor? The clutch never turns on. Any gurus on a/c want to chime in I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks Dave

if the a/c does not have the right amount of freon the a/c clutch will not kick on

there are some fuses involved as well as 1 or 2 switches in the system. There could also be a control head issue too. Lots of things that could cause it. Did it work before you charged it?

No.it has'nt worked in the three years I've owned the truck. I don't drive the truck alot,so it really has'nt been an issue. It's gotten very warm here lately and it would be nice to have it. Also I would like to have everything on the truck in working order. Any thoughts on where to start? Thanks

Check the Fuses to start with. Then Check for power on one of the two wires at the clutch. if no power there then check for power on one of the two wires on the switch that is at the back of the A/C compressor. If there is power there jumper the two wires and see if the clutch activates. if it does you need a new switch there. off the top of my head thats as far as I can go. you can jumper power to the clutch connecor (compressor side of the connector) and see if the clutch itseld works too.

there should be a high pressure switch and low pressure switch the low is on the dryer I think and the high on the compressor. If the low pressure switch is bad it wont let compressor kick in either try jumping it as well.

First, how did you charge it if the compressor never kicked on? I guess the pressure would force the 134a into the system. Next, have you turned the compressor without the belts on and made sure it's not locked up?

Okay, let's assume you have a fully charged system, but still the a/c compressor doesn't kick on. My first check is the plug at the back of the compressor. I had issues with mine where it wasn't making a good enough connection and it would let the compressor clutch slip. weird, I know. Anyway, turn the a/c on max a/c with the truck running and get out there and wiggle that connection. If it kicks off, the pins in that connection are dirty and need to be cleaned. in the bottom of the connection is a red plastic piece, pull that out, it's a lock. Then you can pull the individual wires out and clean them. If that doesn't get you rollin' I would say check the adjustment screw on the dryer. Inside the plug on the accumilator....I think is a screw head, I can't remember how to adjust it, but give it a turn and see what happens.. I say this assuming you have a full charge and that you pulled a good vacuum on it before you charged it. Hope that helps
