sooooo I took the intake elbow off to tap the boost gaugein and much to my surprise there was no throttle body valv in there...I have an 03 and not real sure of the build date without going out in the poring rain to look at it...but I thought all of the 03 came with the throttle body valve in place....so I guess this would mean an aftermarket intake would bolt right on and go? Any thoughts?
If you're saying there is no butterfly valve in the throttle plate, then you probably have the two wire connections going to dummy connectors. In that case, you could bolt on an '05 - '07 intake elbow (after removing the throttle plate) with no problems or CEL issues.

Not all 2003 motors had throttle plates installed in the Intake Elbow from the factory (the 2003.25 Motors did not use the throttle plate even if it was present), When the 2004 motors came out on Sept 29, 2003 all the motors had throttle plates in the Intake Elbow and they were controlled by the PCM.
When the 2005 and newer motors came out June 29, 2004, the throttle valve in the Intake Elbow was done away with and a new Intake Elbow design was installed. It is an easy swap to put a A/M Power Intake Elbow(www.intakeelbows.com) or a 2005 or newer OEM intake elbow on your truck. Most who have done the swap have reported good improvement gains over the restrictive 03-04 Intake Elbow.
Hope this helps

Put an 05 elbow on mine, removed throttle body, definatly helped power wise, felt alot more responsive, and just seemed to make it run smoother. Might have gained about 1 mpg too.
I ported my elbow out when I had it off to remove the butterfly. There's lots of material to work with especially on the short side radius which needs the most work. I'm sure not as good as an aftermarket elbow, but an improvement over stock and cost nothing.
i recently put one on and it is so much easier to get above 2k with little pedal effort...noticed a bigg diff in smoothness of motor...worth the install.
