I wonder what "a new Cummins V8" entails. That and what kind of bump in disaplacement did the Hemi get? Are they finally going with the 6.1? And if they are going with the 6.1 why not more HP than 345? AHHHHH so many questions with so few answers.
4.0L V6 260 hp, 260 lb ft torque
4.7L V8 300 hp, 330 lb ft torque
5.7L V8 Hemi 345 hp, 375 lb ft torque
Now that's impressive. Ford really should increase horsepower on F-150.
What's impressive about that? That's the same Over Head 16 Valve Hemi they've offered for several years with the same HP/Torque figures. What's impressive is the Tundra: 32 valve DOHC all aluminum 5.7L V8 with 381 HP. Us Ford enthusiasts should thank our lucky stars that Toyota put that engine in the ugliest truck on the planet. Even Toyota loyalists hate the styling.
Gasoline will most likely be $4 a gallon by 2009. Who is going to buy them? We need small diesels, not a continuation of the horsepower race. Also, is anyone going to trim down the exessive empty weights of pickups? A "three quarter ton" pickup now tips the scales at around 6000lbs, empty! Not that long ago it was under 5000.
those hemi #s are old....they will prob be higher id guess. prob in the 380s or soo. The thing that makes the hemis worthwhile in the 3.50+ $/gal. days in the MDS....which is does surprisling help on the highways i hear. Wish ford would bring that tech to the V8s....

MDS might work OK in really flat country but it doesn't help in the mountains. The deactivation of the cylinders is only momentary and it does not help. I have a nephew who works at a dealership and is driving one now. I asked him how it does on gas and he says it is the same as the pre MDS engine.
