Torque Converter Balance

I have a shudder I’ve been trying to track down on a 95 F150 with a 4R70W Transmission.
I have come to the conclusion that when the PO had the Torque Converter replaced that the new Torque Converter is out of balance.

Has anybody run into a balance problem with a new Torque Converter being out of balance and/or causing a shudder at low RPM about 20-30 MPH?

If it went out of balance there should be a weight missing. Maybe you can spot it with the dust cover removed.

That's sounds like normal TC shudder from a worn TC. They usually lockup at about 40mph. Change the tranny fluid and filter it may go away.

I have changed the fluid, filter and the 1-2 piston.

TQ looks new with no drain plug so it is newer than April 2002.
Besides I put my homemade transmission tester on it and it does it before the TCC lockup.

I am starting to feel it standing still in neutral by slowly revving up.
It has new spark plugs and wires, rotor and cap.
Checked the TPS with an analog meter for bad spots and a digital meter for the idle and WOT voltages, all seems good.

It runs smooth at higher highway speeds so if is not the TC out of balance I do not know what to check next.

I have heard that you can take the bolts out of the TC with it in the truck and push it back and then run the engine to check this, is this true?

I did not know if it would go back far enough to clear the Ring Gear.

Think you are looking at the wrong place. Difficult for a converter to lose balance since it is liquid filled. There are no weights on them, only some early mopar externally balanced engines rerquired weights.
Are you confident it is in the transmission? Could it be a bad mount or maybe a slipped harmonic balancer. I have seen the rubber deteriorate and throw the engine out of balance.
Could take the converter bolts out, and move the converter back a bit, and start the engine to isolate it to the engine or trans.

This link suggests that weights are added to TC's although I just don't remember seeing weights added to it. I need to pay more attention.

Anything can be out of balance even if it's filled with fluid.
The flex plate may be the culprit too if it spit a weight.
Even internally balanced engines have weights welded to the flex plate and TC to get to zero balance. I went though a steep learning curve when I added a SBC 400 to my vette. The 400 is externally balanced and the 350 is internally balanced. I had to keep the small (158 tooth vs 172) flexplate and 6" harmonic balancer vs a 8". It made balancing the engine very difficult. Added heavy metal to the crank and welded weight to the FP to get it to balance. 13 pulls to get it right.

I've never tried releasing the TC from the flex plate but it makes sense as long as it doesn't work it's way back into the flex plate. It would definely rule out the TC & FP.

The harmonic damper is another good place to check.

Thanks guys, I will let you know what I find.
Today I ran a can of Injector cleaner through it, no help.
I also just did the Sea Foam thing through the brakes booster vacuum line.
I do not know if this helped or not yet.
