Today, I decided to install a new tape deck in my truck. I noticed the opening from the stereo seemed to be splitting. I broke a piece off and noticed that piece is fiberglass. It appears the whole face of the dash has a fiberglass cover? Did these trucks come like that, or did someone prior apply the fiberglass to the dash?
Dontcha love PO's?! Does it appear to be a patch for a previous hack job on the dash (for a stereo, no doubt) or a complete overlay for the whole dash?
I looks like the whole face of the dash has this fiberglass skin. At least up to the glove box door. I think Albuq hit it on the head by saying hackjob. They cut holes for the gauges and an opening for the stereo.
I bought a 56 dash off ebay for this exact reason...mine has quite a few openings for "undocumented features" that some well-meaning PO added. However, once I got the dash home I see that it's no small matter to change it out!
