Time for headers any recomendations?

ok guys my 98 5.4 needs new manifolds so I think it might be time for a set of headers. Does anybody make a set of shoties that bolts to the stock y pipe? I know there isnt much room in there but has anyone had any experience with a good set of shorties?

I wouldn't waste time with shorties. I've put two sets on Lightnings and got nothing with them. I got about 25hp on my L with Kooks longtubes, but I doubt a naturally aspirated engine would get that much.

I didn't see anything with my shorties, and the fit wasn't all that great either, but I did get a nice sound. Those kooks are nice but pricey, from what I understand they are probably the best on the market.

Yes, the shorties don't fit nearly as nicely as the longtubes.

I got my Kooks 5 or 6 years ago when they first came out and they were the only thing available. They are very nice, but I think you can do better these days. There are a few different headers available that have different features that may be better. I think they were $750 when I bought them, which isn't all that much for a longtube header going into a late model car.

i can assure you that if you live in california...longtube headers and passing smog tests do not go hand in hand - you will have problems (unless you get someone to "take care of it" for you) - you could also get the a-hole that ACTUALLY checks the # of cats you have too!
