Innovative vs LIPD??

I going to be purchasing a Xcal2 with custom tunes. Which guys should I go with for the tunes. Innovative or Long Island. I hear good things about both. However, Innovatives Xcal2 with custom tunes is about 50$ cheaper. Or will i be happy with whoever i choose?

Thanks, DB

hard to tell

I've heard good things about Matt at LIPD. I got my xcal2 from Eric at Innovative and he was great to work with. From all of the rave reviews here for LIPD, I'd not hesitate to use them either. The tunes that I got from Eric were everything that he said they would be so I'm happy.

The hands down favorite around here is Matt at LIPD, it is not just about price, it is also about performance, service and follow up. Matt will support his custom tunes for your truck for life and make changes as you wish at no additional charge. I do not know if Innovative or any of the others offer this service, also i do know that Innovative charges an additional $80 for the Extreme Power upgrade (This is for their hotter files).

Ask Innovative if you want additional tunes or tuning in the future will they charge you an additional cost.

My choice for the 6.0 as it is with the majority on FTE is Matt at LIPD

Hope this helps

In all fairness.... here is what you do:

1) Call each one and discuss what you want, what you may want and what you think you want?

2) Ask 100 questions about every aspect of a tuner and how it may affect your vehicle and their thoughts and experiences with such?

3) Support... how much, how long and at what cost?

4) How do they treat you and make you feel on the phone (customer service and support is just as important, and sometimes more, than price).

5) Who does your "gut" say to go with if pricing were equal?

6) Search their posts and replies here at FTE and compare how they communicate and answer questions?

7) Ask for referrals and references of current owners from each - then compare.

Good luck and I believe that you can not go wrong with either choice.

Jeff

I have Innovative tunes from Eric and I can't say enough good things about them. Ted was great on the phone and answered all questions and even offered up some info of commonly asked questions that I didn't ask... Would and will deal with them again no question...

Maybe Matt and Eric could list the different tunes that they offer. I'm thinking about changing from Superchips to Xcal2 but I'm confused as to which custom tunes that I would want.

emmagator,

Here is the email I got back from Eric at Innovative in regards to questions of additional tunes and the "Extreme Power Upgrade"

“1) What is the "Extreme Power upgrade" for an additional $80.00 on the SCT XcalII?

Response:
The Xtreme Power Upgrade included the our highest power programming with the package. You can purchase it for the same price at any time later on also.

2) If i want any additional tunes or custom tuning at a later date, not including the Extreme Power Upgrade, are there any additional charges?

Response:

No, updates or changes are free. The Xcal2 does have adjustable parameters that will override certain parameters, so there is some flexability.

However, if you get reflashed and we have to build you new programs off the new processor code, there's a $65 fee that will cover building all the programs for you.

Thx.

Eric”

Matt does not have any additional fees, one price and he will tune your SCT for as long as you have it on your truck

Both Eric and Matt have been tuning the 6.0 and have a good reputation on FTE, as BBC said call both of them and talk to them, then purchase from whom you are the most comfortable with.

Hope this helps

LIPD, but I guess I am biased. I have heard nothing but good about Innovative here and other boards as well. So as Jeff said, you can probably not go wrong with either one. I do know that on several occasions Matt has drove several hours to get tunes right on certain vehicles that were being difficult, due to other mods.

Hey thanks great for all the advice. Ill give them both a call, ask some questions, then make decision. However, I really like the idea of no additional charges, EVER!!!
