6.0 Slow to Start/Idle
I have a 2007 6.0, and I have noticed in the past few weeks it takes a little longer for the engine to get to idle speed after start. It doesn't crank any longer than usual, but once it fires, it takes a couple seconds to get to normal idle speed as opposed to getting there right away. I am a few hundred miles from my next oil change, so could it just be that it is ready for some fresh oil? Like I said, it doesn't crank for extended periods, once it starts it runs fine with no power loss. Thanks in advance!

What oil & filter are in the truck now?
Do you do your own oil changes or do you have someone do it for you?

There are about 4,700 miles on the oil right now.....I haven't done my own oil change yet because this will only be the 2nd time it needs to be changed, and Ford did the first one for free. Therefore I don't know what oil/filter are in it either. Of course this morning I go out and it kicks right up to idle right away. Like I said, no loss of power, and runs great once it starts.

nut1605,
It sure sounds like and oil problem. Lord only knows what oil the dealer used. Many use 10W-30 as routine and this can shear down pretty fast.
I would change the oil, go to Wal Mart and you can get Fram ($15.00) or Motorcraft $20.00 oil filters (OEM Racor) and buy a 15W-40 CJ-4 rated oil of your brand preference. I think this may solve your cold start issues.
I would think with your build date you should at least have the buzz flash on the injectors to prevent stiction issues at start-up.
Hope this helps

Alright guys, like I said in my first post, every day when I go out and start my truck for the first time (doesn't matter if it is 8:00 AM and 75 degrees or 2:00 PM and 100 degrees), I turn the key on, the glow plugs heat up like normal, then I turn the key to crank, and it might take a little longer than normal to crank. It will then fire, and SLOWLY speed up to normal idle speed (maybe 2-3 seconds). It doesn't seem like its going to die or anything, just gets to idle speed slowly. Every time I start it after that for that day, it starts up normally.
I changed my oil since my first post. I used 15W-40 Rotella with Fram oil filter, and it is still doing it. Could it be a fuel issue? I buy fuel from the same place every time unless I am out of town, and I use Diesel Kleen in every tank.
I have absolutely no power loss (seems to be getting a little more power now that it is starting to get broken in), no rough idling, and I love the way it runs. Its just that initial start up that is a little odd. Sorry for the long post, and I appreciate all of the ideas!

Fuel problem
I have a 2004 ford 6.0 diesel. Was driving down the road the other day after replacing number 6 injector,it ran great the after about 5 hours of off and on driving maybe 75 miles it lost power and started smoking real bad out of tail pipe then died. I plugged it in and the codes read that numbers 6and 3 were bad. Got it home and pulled number 6 out and it seemed fine so I just cleaned it real good and made sure all o-rings were still good cause like I said I just replaced it. Then put everything back together and plugged it in again and it didn't pull any codes so I pulled the number 3 injector out to inspect it and it looked fine also so cleaned it real good and put it all back together. Went to start the truck and it started and ran for about a minute or so then started dying like it wasn't getting any fuel and died. I checked to see if it was getting fuel and it was getting plenty of it. I changed both fuel filters about a month prior to all this happening. I opened the top fuel filter and it had fuel in it so I know that the fuel is getting up to the motor. I don't know what to do from here. Every time I get it started it only runs for about a minute or so then dies out like it doesn't have fuel. Once it starts to die I also lose all throttle,it doesn't do anything I can mash it to the floor and it's not reading that I'm pushing the pedal and then dies again!! Does anyone know what my problem could be??
