Cleaning chrome plated wheel covers

Anyone have any suggestions on what to use to clean the chrome plated plastic wheel covers on the F150's (1999). I have lots of brake dust on them. I tried a Dupont Teflon spray that's save for plastic wheels with no luck. I don't mind using other cleaners or scrubbing but don't want to ruin them.

Thanks in advance.........Mark

Try something simple, like a degreaser. Heck, even windex might work. I don't have the plastic wheel stuff, but windex is my miracle degreaser. You probably have some under your kitchen sink and it will cost you very little to give it a shot.

#0000 steel wool works great on chrome.

All kinds of disc brake dust removers are available...spray it on, wash it off. I wouldn't use anything abrasive on plastic chrome. The finish is very thin.

My truck has polished aluminum wheels with plastic center caps. So far...there's no ill effects of using Meguairs brake dust remover on the plastic caps.

I agree...I've prepped/sold hundreds of f150 wheels/center caps on ebay and that is what I have always used. I also have the 17" chromeclad (plastic) Lariat wheels on my 2000 F150, which I simply wash normally, then steel wool with the #0000, they always appear brand new, no scratches.

**Note: Do NOT use synthetic type.**
