What fluid for a C6?

We don't have much choice anymore. The last marketing licenses for Dexron III/Mercon expire June 30, 2007 and no more will be made after that date. Ford says Mercon V is the correct replacement for Mercon.

That includes issuing service bulletins to all dealers reminding them to use Mercon V only.

That's good.
I thought I had a leaking pan gasket. So I pulled the pan, put a new gasket in. Filled it up, then I found the true leak... The cooler return line...
Oh well. The fluid needed to be changed anyway.
What's the concensus on cutting the bad end off and splicing a new one on?
Or should I bend up a whole new line?

Replaced the cooler return line yesterday and filled it up with Mercon V.
The leak was up near the trans, directly over-top the exhaust pipe. Not the easiest place in the world to get my fat hands... Rubber hose was out of the question due to the location.
I disconnected the line from the trans and cut it about two feet forward near the straight section going past the bellhousing. Bent up some new line and used a compression fitting to connect the ends. Put it all back together and no leaks (so far).
Drove about 20 miles today. Actually I think it drives better now...
The old stuff was pretty bad, so I'm sure new fluid of any kind helped.
I'll update if anything changes.

What were you using in it? If Mercon, you can use that until the supply runs out and then for better or worse we're stuck with Mercon V.
