someone got a great deal...

...on this '66 F250:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...2617732&rd=1,1

I asked him some questions, and it sounded solid as a rock. WAAAAAAY less than the same truck I bought 2 yrs ago in the same condition. Story of my life.

Yep, that does sound like it was a GREAT deal for someone!
Don't feel too bad, I never seem to be able to catch a deal like that either!

Maybe the new owner will show up here & asking questions about fixin' er up!

That truck was originally built in California, the 5th digit in the VIN is an R. It also has the deluxe instrument cluster...very rare to see that in a non Custom Cab. And, it has the factory Camper Special extended mirrors. Try finding those today.

Thanks, ND, now I REALLY feel dumb for not bidding on it.

What amazed me even more is that the guy had a Buy it Now price of $800 on it, and nobody thought to step up (including me, but I already HAVE a '66) and pay a lousy $800 for such a straight truck.

Don't feel bad, the seller didn't really describe it very well. Regardless of the California heritage, it might have spent many years in the rust belt. From the pictures, I'd say it would take 5 grand minimum to rechrome, repaint and re-upholster. And that's without any possible rust repair. Next, there are the mechanicals to consider.

Out here in SoCalifornia, these trucks are a dime a dozen, and don't generate the interest they do elsewhere. Average prices for rust free running 1961/66 pickups...$500.00 and up. The 1967/79's don't fare much better. My gardener just bought an all original 1973 Ranger...$800.00.

Yeah, you're right, ND. I got bit by the old-truck bug when I moved out there after college from Michigan. Talk about rust-belt!

I went thru a half-dozen old trucks, many wished I kept, the coolest being a '65 F100 352 automatic that I bought from a construction company, Southern California Erectors. Both doors had the company logo painted on them, a silhouette (sp?) of the state of Cal with a huge block-and-tackle and hook lifting the state right about where the South bay juts out and faces south. I used the truck to move myself, a motorcycle, belongings, and tow a '74 Landcruiser out to St. Louis. I almost crapped my pants coming down the other side of the continental divide with those brakes and a 4,500 lb truck pushing me. On a trip back to Cal from St. Loius, I found a pristine '66 CS with an Alaskan camper on it, so of course I had to have it, and sold the '65 in St. Louis. Wish I'd kept both of them.

You are very fortunate to live there, I hope I get to again before I die. Take care!
