I'm looking for advice on what intake to install on my 7.3. I know a lot of people use AFE, what about Airaid, or RFI from Bully Dog? Looking for a general consensus on this. Any info will be appreciated.
I've used the 6637 or Kwik filter for a while now and love it. It is a little bit noisy for some, but that adds to the attraction for me. Plus it is the least expensive way to go.
So, is this 6637 just a filter? Theres not a new intake tube right? Does anyone have any pics of this installed? Is it a round filter or square? How's the install?
It's also known as the "Kwik" filter. Legend has it, he didn't actually invent the idea but was the first to post pics and a write-up. Do a search and you will be up to your ears in information. Here is a link for what I think is the cheapest price http://www.fleetfilter.com/ scroll down a bit on the home page and you'll see it listed. It's round and it is just the filter. Here is a photo http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=FIL&PartNumber= 6637&Description=Air+Filter+(Gold) complete with the rediculous price NAPA wants for them.
Hope this helps
Edit: looks like you'll have to copy/paste the NAPA link, sorry.
After looking at the AIS filter, it looks alot like my stage 1 AFE intake. All you gotta do is the zoo-dad mod and you got all the cold air (and bugs) your filter can handle.
The 6637 will give off what IMO is a very annoying PPPSSSS when towing. The same sound it gives off when not towing but upon heavy accerleration. I've had both. And after a cross country trip towing a TT with the 6637, I couldn't get the AIS fast enough when I got home. So happens, last week I towed the TT for the 1st time with the AIS. Oh what a sweet silence...
The AIS is Ford's answer to heavy dusting and it's a great setup. A lot quieter than the 6637. But the 6637 sounds a LOT better if you have a Wicked Wheel. More like a real turbo should sound VS that Darth Vader sound that the factory intake wheel makes.
This recording was made pulling my trailer up a hill in Utah with the 6637, stock fuel programming, disable wastegate, stock exhaust with a Walker BTM. http://home.comcast.net/~kwikkordead/Wicked_Wheel.mp3
