I have a 2000 ford extended cab and 8 foot box SD with the 7.3L that i pull a 32 ft gooseneck trailer, and a 24 ft cattle trailer, now my problem has nothing to do with the performance of the truck or the size of the trailer but instead my problem is the flexplate, I bought the truck used with just over 100,000, miles on it, a few months later the flexplate broke on me so i went to the dealership and ordered a new flexplate, and new bolts and a few other parts, asked the service manager and parts guy if they had any idea why it broke and was told "nope no idea but we can fix it for you" well I put everything together and was off and smiling again (By the way i was thinking at the time "WOW has this thing got power, twisted the center right outta that sucker :-), that was in 2005, now a few years later in 2007 almost 2 years to the day and 40,000 miles more the mighty beast busted another flexplate so I went to a fine website I heard about called www.ford-truck.com and did a search on flexplate and lo and behold a few really knowledgeable people were talking about a TSB 99-23-6 which stated that the engine adapter was machined incorrectly at the factory and gave some part numbers, well i took the parts to work with me, seeing as I'm a semi-competent machinist only to find that indeed the cursed adapter was .080 off from one side to the other.....called up my dealer and asked if they had heard anything about this flexplates or if ford had put out any notices about broken flexplates and parts dude said, "nope nothing there" so I gave him the number and he said " well yeah maybe there is a tsb", I asked him to do a oasis search on my VIN and it came back with a warrenty claim in 2002 at 80,000 miles, now my problem is not the $370 bucks it will take to replace everything(I found a place on the web called www.powerstrokeshop.com and the guy I talked to was very helpful, factory ford parts, and about 15 to 20 percent cheaper then my local dealer even with shipping) my problem is more on the line of, it was fixed in 2002 under warrenty so why is my engine adapter still messed up in 2007? when i asked the guys at the dealership that have all the information why didnt they bother looking up the TSB? why did I need to go to a website of unpaid, non ford employeed, devoted ford fanatics to find the answer to my problem
I feel that Ford motor Company should be suppling the new parts seeing as they are the ones that machined it in the first place, what do you all think??
Am i being a jerk about this or not?
I feel like putting it all together and going down the road to the Cummins boys but man them trucks just aint got it(great motor bad bad bad truck) so i guess im gonna keep on powerstrokin
I would tend to lean towards you being technically right but, I do not know the particulars of how they have to deal with TSB's. I would think that if there is a TSB they need to prove that the TSB was satasified for your VIN. If it was not they need to take care of it. If it was then they are off the hook.
Hang in there Dave. I'd get in touch with the Ford Customer Service folks and have a chat with them. If you are calm cool and collected, they may be able to do something for you.
