My trans needs to be replaced. It's C6 on a 351m 4x4. What I need to know is, can I get a 4speed auto trans for a 79. If not
then I have another problem. When driving at highway speed(45-55)
the rpm's are at 3500 to 4200. Is that normal or is that the bad trans. Also in 4wheel drive the rpm's are lower than in 2wheel drive. In 2wheel she is screaming. Please help thanks.
You need a transmission that is for a big block 351M/400/460 to match the bell housing pattern. You might want to check to make sure you have not lost your linkage (bent, rotted, just loose) to the transfer.
I don't think there is a good 4-auto solution for you. The 460's went from C6 to E4OD. The E4OD is electronically shifted. The old AOD 4-Auto didn't need a computer to shift, but don't think it would take the torque without setup work, and the bolt pattern was 302/351W type.
