Ford still up in sales, but still gotta step it up another notch, 2009 might be official, nobody can surpass the F-150.

If Ford would dump the POS 4.6 and make the 5.4 the bare bones motor and come up w/ a competetive block it would help. It would freaking awesome to see a V10 in the 1/2 tons.

I have 4.6L in my truck. Although I think its underpowered, I really like my truck. But not as much as Mustang.

I can guarantee you would. And see only a 1-2 mph difference to boot.

Am I missing something here? He said 4.6, not 4.9. The 4.6 is a V8. You have the 4.9 inline six.

Edit That's a nice truck you got there! Nice find.

As I have stated in another post I regret the day I traded my 4.9 in. They are awesome motors and I REALLY wish Ford would bring it back (only with about 280 hp). The 4.6 on the other hand is #1 underpowered, #2 gets crappy mileage for no more power than it has and #3 has no business in a truck.

As far as the 4.2 goes all I have to say about it is this. Where I worked (maintennance yard for a high school) a few years back we had 2 of them, a '01 and a '02. We couldnt pull more much than the BobCat with any success on a car trailer, were constantly having to gas them to get a steady idle and put 2 clutches in one and 1 clutch in another in just one summer. They were so weak they could barely move the 5 speed they were attached to. I am not real sure what they got for mileage but they could get 100MPG and I STILL wouldnt ever buy one. Now at the yard they drive dodges with 4.7's. FoMoCo did a crappy job on the 4.2.

yep i love her drive her everday as a matter of fact as of today i have put 2k on her for a grand total of 107,xxx trucks flawless. little rough around the edges but the Drivetrain is by far the best i've had in ANY of my vehicles. it pulls trailers for my lawncare service 6 days out of the 7 plus a couple of other miscellanoes things and it has performed them without effort.. hell even today i had to pull a stump out of the back yard. took our 83 Chevy 2wd with a 350 tried it nothing.all it did was spin the damn tires. Really pissed me off too and i then took the little 300 and i admit i had my doubts but i be damn if it didn't come all the way out in 3 tries.. This truck is definetly a keeper!!

and thanks.. it was a tough decsion.. I knew i was definetly going i just couldn't figure out which branch it was between the marines and the airforce..( i wasn't joining the army and the navy had never talked to me) i was gonna go on a buddy program but 2 things made me back out #1 there was no way in HELL i was going infantry.(thats what he wanted to do).#2 The marines just wasn't my style.. I have alot of respect for them but it just didn't fit me like the airforce does.(and failure is NOT an option )fits me perfectly to a T. I try to go and PT with them every so often and i'm always getting singled out and made to do "extra" pushups for being a "puss" but thats ok it will just make life easier in airforce bootcamp so like i say Diffrent strokes for diffrent folks

I have both.. i just bought the 300 about 3 weeks ago and thanks Grandpa always taught me that when out "hustling" (not drug dealing) NEVER pull up in a new truck it makes them think you have money and scares some of them off as they think you are too expensive, too big etc. always pull up in the beater so they feel sorry for you and see your trying to do something.

the 4.2 aint that bad we had an 02' now truth be told we never pulled/hauled anything so i can't argue with that. but it had enough power for what we needed it for. and correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't a bobcat and the trailier exceed the trailer capacity for a 4.2 especially in 01'!!

I hear you about pulling up in a fancy new truck. I have seen this, and it goes just as well as pulling up in a piece of junk. I keep my trucks clean and I also keep my tools in the back organized.
I have a "new to me" 02 F150 with a V6, I think this is a great truck. It does what I need it to do. With gas prices at 3.30 here, I get more miles out of a my 4.2 than my 5.8.
I have driven(owned) many different engine/tranny FORD combos, and I like the 4.2 and all the rest.
