Do you think your ignorance of your truck's load rating would be related in any way to your broken leaf spring? Any half ton can be overloaded but just because it doesn't bottom out doesn't mean it's safe or smart.

well anything can carry over the said amount. that doesn't mean it should be done.

there are more things than the springs that have to do with weight ratings.

but most people don't understand that until something happens.

Hopefully one day your overloaded truck won't have a problem stopping during an panic/emergeny situation.

Come on people, 400 pounds is not grossly overloaded. That truck can easily handle that all day, everyday.

Ford and other manufacturers usually underrate payloads a bit. Ford has ppl like you in mind when they do that.

its like almost 20% overloaded. thats a lot.

and no, ford does not under rate, why would they under rate a key selling point of a truck?

sure they do. 20 % is nothing if I know how to handle it. and 1950 is about tops for my truck i wont ever over load over this mark. 1600-1950 350 pounds over rated payload is nothing.

Yes they do, and have for years..every manufacturer does it. It's usually less than 300 lbs on a F150. Look in the spec books that dealers use, ask any Ford Fleet Dept or Truck Sales manager. I know from experience (35 yrs as a Ford partsman) they did it. Please explain to me how you know they don't.

easily, go load the truck up and take it to the highway patrol station and see if they think it is legal to go over the weight rating of the truck.

i am sure the otr trucks can hold a lot more than they transport also.

and show me proof where they DO do it, because i can show you proof that what the weight rating is, show me where they declare it more than that.

I WISH I did have the spec books, because there one will find the actual load rating. I don't...so I guess I/you need to find the specs, scan them and post 'em here.

Otherwise the discussion is moot.

here it comes...
