HPOP Area Oil Leak
I left a quart of oil on the ground at work during the week. I couldn't find the leak. Went to the local auto parts store & grabbed 2 gallons of Rotella T. Added oil until it registered on the dipstick & drove home (25 miles). Put another quart on the ground in front of the house, looked for the leak, couldn't find it. Came in the house, logged onto FTE & searched for "Oil Leak" in 7.3 PSD Forums. Found info & specific locations to check- HPOP while engine is running- went out to the truck, checked oil level- low but ok, started & looked for leak- BINGO! There it was- shooting out of the front HPOP output fitting (threaded end). Came back into the house & searched FTE Forums for repair info. Got part # for "O Ring" kit, borrowed the wife's Mercury & went to Ford Dealer. Came home & started repair. Couldn't get those "Quick Connect" fittings to come apart. I ground an old (cheap) 3/8" open end wrench to about 1/8" to 3/16" thick (who uses SAE anymore, anyway?) and got the black retainer rings to slide down towards the HPOP and they came apart (7/16" SAE would've been better). Removed fittings & saw "O Ring" was no longer an "O", it as more of a "C". Removed the "O Rings" from all 3 fittings, cleaned fittings & HPOP internal threads. Installed new "O Rings" & Green Locktite that came in the Kit & re-installed. Reconnected the 2 Oil lines to the Heads, pulled as many electrical connections as I could get to & sprayed with Contact Cleaner (to remove old oil residue). Left truck overnight. Put all Electrical Connections back together, covered Alternator, Glow Plug Relay & any really exposed wiring with plastic bags & tied with string. Sprayed everything under the hood with Simple Green, let sit about 20 minutes (oil was everywhere) and hosed it down. Let it sit about 2 hours and removed plastic bags, went over everything to be sure eveything was back where it belonged. Checked oil level, it was just showing at the bottom of the dipstick, added about 1/2 gallon to bring it just up to the "ADD" line. Started engine and let it begin to warm up (started up really easily and quickly). I began to check for the original leak and any others- found none! When the engine was 1/2 way to it's normal "Warm" mark, I shut it down & read the oil level again- low. Added the other 1/2 gallon & let sit a few minutes. Read the oil level again, it was just past the "ADD" mark, left it there & restarted the engine. Let engine fully come up to normal operating temperature and shut down again & let sit 5 to 10 minutes for oil to start to drain back to pan for another reading. Checked oil level again & it was just beyond the "ADD" mark. Restarted engine & checked for leaks again- none!! Went for a ride in my baby.
Thank you to all who posted anything on oil leaks and High Pressure Oil Pumps and leaks. Without all of you I wouldn't have my truck (Excursion) and I really love my truck. Thanks again- sincerely- heatmon.

Fixed mine today. Was leaking at the forward o ring. The ring was pretty messed up. Leak started suddenly, got progressively worse in a week from a dime size spot on the driveway to a dollar size. Upon inspection it was pretty clear where the oil was coming from. Easy fix, took about 2 hours. Hardest part is releasing the hoses from the fittings if you don't have the factory tool. I used a similar tool and managed. Also, cleaning the ports was easiest for me with a wooden qtip sprayed with brake cleaner, be patient.
