Early '06, Code P0299 and Turbo Issues?

Took my truck out on its first trip of any length, about 200 miles, towing a small (2300 lb) car 4-down. After about an hour on the road, we stopped for a meal. Not long after re-start, Check Engine light came on, and the rpm and shifting became very erratic. Seemed to me to have excessive back-pressure. Next day I dropped truck off at nearest Ford dealer.

They said it was a Code P0299 which they cleared and said they were unable to duplicate. I picked up the truck, drove again about an hour, stopped for another meal, and upon restart, sure enough, light came on again. Now its at selling dealer's shop.

This truck is an early '06 (06/05 assembly date). It only has 1000 miles. Is the prolonged "lot time" a factor here? I've read some things about a turbo re-design somewhere in this time frame.

Any of you have similar experience?

how long did the truck sit on the lot? when was the build date & when was the sell date? that will help determine whether 'lot rot' could be playing a factor. From what i've read and gathered on a few forums, people that have that code and take it to the dealer, drive out of the dealer with a new turbo. im sure the same will happen in your situation. If they do a turbo swap, talk to the tech about your old turbo and relay that info back here. could help someone down the line that comes here and searches for "p0299" info. good luck man!

Got the truck back, they say the turbo vanes are sticking a little, want me to drive it some more to see if it loosens up.

So that's two trips with no real answers to anything.

I get the impression that there are not very many good 6.0L techs in the dealerships.

Had the exact same thing appen to me. I bought my '06 in feb of '06. I believe the truck had a build date of 6/05. Mine happened t 7000 miles when I was accelerating onto the highway pretty good. Brought it in to dealer, the reflashed it with the injector buzz and then got the truck back. Next week check engine light came on again and this time they replaced the turbo. Sooo what i'm saying is that I feel your pain. I think it was definitely lot rot.
