F-250 Std Cab - Should I put my new speakers in front or back?

Hey, all,

I'm getting ready to put a new radio into my 2001 F-250 with the standard cab, and I bought a pair of new speakers to go with the radio. Right now, my cab has speakers in the doors but none behind the seat. (Coming from a 2003 F-150, I didn't even know the 250 had a place for speakers behind the seat!)

Anyway, I was planning to put the new speakers in the doors, then I discovered the (empty) spaces for speakers behind the seat, so now I'm not sure what to do, because I figure I'd like to use both the new speakers and re-use the old OEM speakers.

So, long story short -- should I put the new speakers behind the seat or in the doors?

It seems like the place to put the better speakers is behind the seat, since I suspect you'll hear the "highs" better there, but I'm not sure.

Anyone have an opinion on this? Sorry for long post and TIA.

Put them up front. Putting them in the rear is going to muffle them.

Rear speakers are typically only for filler anyway. You want the sound stage to be the dash

Yes, put the new better ones in the door and you will hear them much better than in the back.

^^^ Doors. The door speakers are way easier to replace too.

Thanks, everyone.

So is it difficult to install speakers in the spaces for them behind the seat? I'd like to put the old ones from my doors there. What do I need to do to install them?

I'm not sure if the wiring is there already or not. I want to say the 03 we have at the shop already has rear speakers though.

The speakers in the doors and behind the seats are the same speakers. So no point in replacing them with the speakers you just pulled from the doors.

I don't know for sure on a single cab XL, but my rear speakers are behind the seats right next to the seat belt box.

You'll need to remove the top anchor for the seat belts, remove the floor board trim in front of the door, then the panel should be able to be removed to get to the speakers.

OK, thanks. Pretty sure my 2001 F-250 doesn't have speakers behind the seat, just the grilles/spaces. (It was a fairly stripped model.)

I appreciate the help.
