05 escape V6 running rough

my girlfriend has an 05 escape. One day last week it just started chugging like it was running on 4 or 5 cylinders. I ran it down to the auto parts stor and they hooked up a diagnostic tool. It shot back that there was a problem with coil A. B. C. and D. I shopped around and found replacement coilds for $40.00 a piece (not too shabby) I was able to change them in under two hours however two days later; it is caughing occaisionally and seemingly doing the same thing but intermittently. We took it to the auto parts and ran a diagnostic again and it shot back codes 113 (intake temperature senser high) and 351 (primary or secondary ignition coil circuit malfunction) which is one of the four codes it spit out originally???????Any input from anyone would be appreciated. I talked to a friend who had a similar issue and he replaced cylinder #2 coil three times before he found something in the wiring harnes????? I am going to check into the EGR valve and the Intake temp senser later today (going to bed now)

Ok this is giving me a run for my money. I borrowed a diagnostic tool from my friend to clear the codes on this thing. After clearing them, I drove the truck and it was running rough again when it was cold. The warmer it gets, the better it seems to run. Ironically, the check engine light came back on and when I got it home it shot out po113 again as well as po351, 352, 353 and 354; coil A,B,C and D ignition coil primary or secondary circuit malfunction......That is where I started when I first had the problem. Did I change all the coils and plugs for nothing? Any help would be greatly appreciated....

It's a V6, right? It's a coil on plug system, right? Wondering why it labels them as A, B, C, and D for one? Each coil should be feed seperately from the PCM. It's odd that you have a DTC for almost every coil. You've replaced four of them and have the same problem. It sounds like to me that it's either in the wiring to the PCM or the PCM itself!

escape engine codes

Hey wptski (Bill). Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I replaced all six of the coils (coil on plug) because originally I got four of six engine codes, PO351, 352, 353 and 354. I figured if I had to change four that I may as well do them all. I put new platinym plugs in too. I was told that the wires (coils) and plugs should last 100,000 miles. The vehicle is at 78,00 so I am 20 k early. At any rate, I am receiving all of the same four codes that started this whole scenario and now I am also getting PO113 whick is the mas air temp located in the air intake just before the butterfly valve (throtle body). The dealer is quoting $283.00 with a $75 core. I am going to clean the EGR valve this morning to rule out any vacuum issues and I will also check for vacuum leaks. I will look into the PCM but I imagine that it will run into even higher $$$$$$$$$$$ than the $335 I spent on plugs and coils and the $283 that is pending on the Mas air intake senser.

The IAT sensor is easy to remove and check with a ohm meter. There might be some charts in books for exact resistance at a certain temperature. A basic test is measure the resistance while cold and warmer. You should have 12V on one of the pins on the connector also.

Got a IAT chart from my long gone 97 Ranger at AllDataDIY.

Deg/F - K-ohms
120 - 1.18
110 - 1.55
100 - 2.07
90 - 2.80
80 - 3.84
70 -5.37
60 - 7.70
50 -10.97
40 -16.15
30 -24.27
20 -37.30
10 - 58.75

Did you ever solve your multi error codes problem?

I have a 2005 Escape running rough. The first time the code called out cylinder #4. I replaced the plug and the coil. Still ran rough. Today it barely started and kicked out codes for coil A,C,D,and E.

Didi you ever find the cause for your problem?

Codes for all the coils like that sounds like a bad harness or PCM.

running rough

check your mas air intake sensor....Dealer item; $285.00 with a $75.00 core (located in the air intake plenum) My problem cleared up when the outside temperature went up. So I expect to have issues again when the winter rolls around again. I do indeed intend to change mine before the season is over......... Good luck.

there is a tsb covering this prob. Seems that some of the plugs that were put in originally are causing some sort of "feedback" to the coils and PCM that toasts them. Just had plugs, coils and pcm replaced in my 05. $2k hit. TSB says to replace the plugs, then try the coils, and finally the PCM. Had to do it all and it runs fine now.

Wow, 2K; thats a hard pill to swallow.. As for the PCM. I will look into it at a later date. If I have to shell out 2K to fix this frigging thing I'll get rid of it first.......I already spent $350 on plugs/coils and I am looking at another $110 for the mas ait temp sensor..........Its running fine now but when it turns cold again I expect the problem to arise again. In the meantime I have a check enging light on the dash that I can clear but it keeps coming back on. Thanks for the feedback bro........By the way; what is a tsb?
