i had my e40d rebuilt 5 times, all under warranty.ive had a custom 3 clutch billet convertor built for it.had all the upgrades put in.had a shift correction kit put in.extra clutches, new pump, new solenoid pack, new wiring harness and connectors.so it should work like a charm but it dont.when i put it in reverse it will choke the engine down and even stalls sometimes.when i put it in drive and accelerate it either slips or has a higher gear startnot sure which. but it then drops into first and goes through the gears like it should, then when i come to a stop and take off it does it again.any body have any ideas where to look for the problem
I had a similiar problem with mine, it would shift into drive and back into 2nd. I also had the trans rebuilt, and still the problem happened. I talked to a guy who said the MLP/TR Sensor controls how the trans shift, try replacing this. this part is only about 60 at the ford dealer. Also I had to replace the vechicle speed sensor which is located on the rear diff. Since the e4od is electronic the speed control comes from the abs brake speed control to tell the computer when to shift the trans and into which gears. these two are not that expensive and may correct your problem like mine Good luck
You're right e4od's suck but can be made a reliable tranny if the right people rebuild them. Brians truck shop is the place to get it done. (search the diesels forums) I would run awy from the rebuilder you are using now, they can't know what they are doing after 5 attempts. Is this on a diesel?
Similar upshifting problem with my 91 F250. Aamco called it a "Flare Shift and recommened a full rebuild. I had it rebuilt and it still does this upshifting issue. They said what I am feeling now is different and is supose to do this. They are CROOKS!
