ok I need some help finding somthing I was wondering if they make a posi rear end for the 7.5 inch rear ends in the rangers I got the non limited slip in the back end and wanna change it it's also got 3:45 back there would like to change that too if I can anyone know where I can get a used (perfer due to cost) or new if I have to or am I gonna have to swap out the rear axle to a explorer 8 inch or a ford 9 inch

 

I read in the Ranger forum that there's a Detroit Tru-trac available for the 7.5. The design is similar to the Torson l/s now standard in the new Ranger FX4 Level II. No clutch pack to wear out and the performance is said to be excellent. Don't know who might be able to order one(UAP?), but online ordering and shipping from the states is pretty easy. Check out the FTE sponsors as they usually offer discounts to FTE members.
As for a conventional L/s, a good local boneyard should be able to tell you what applications had a 7.5 l/s and whether they have one in inventory, unfortunately they'll likely tell you that you have to purchase the whole rear end at which point you may as well upgrade to an 8.8. And you'll likely have to replace the clutch pack as they degrade with use.

look for 1s that are 4.0l awd an extended vans
most 3.0l awd shortys never got them

 

I am hopin to just find the cqage and keep my rear end in the truck tomuch work to swap out a rear end this close to show season and I was thinkin of goin to the 8.8 or the 9 but my dad keeps tellin me if it aint broke don't fix it so I will def lookin at the areo stars and if no luck there gonna order one

and one other stupid question lol whats a clutch pack I don't know much about rear ends

 

the clutch pack is inside the carrier its locked up by a spring in there much like the 1 in the transmission .its not hard to find a 8.8 for a ranger look at the wreckers its about $300-400
i have 1 in my 97 ranger with a 2.3
had a 4.10 gear set installed with a mustang carrier
droped it off at the shop to have the gear installed an everything an had it ready to go so i could just do the swap myself

 

My old Ranger had a locking 7.5 from the factory, gone before I got the truck though. I think the one B2 I had had a locking 7.5 too.

If you're going to swap rears, the 8.8 will be strong enough to handle anything you can do with your truck, like the future 5.0 upgrade. Don't bother with the extra expense of modifying a 9" to fit a non-factory application.

if i'm not mistaken when i was looking into a 5.0 for the mazda the 4x4 rangers all had an 8.8 right? the 4cyl mustangs had the 7.5 and the 5.0s had an 8.8 or did they all have a 9? if so an 8.8 should be an easy find at a wreckers now adays and be an easy install?

 

i looked last night at car parts an there was 2 8.8 in kitchener but they are pricey
u could also use a explorer but it will drop the rear end almost 3 inches
if u plan on lowering u could use 1 of them with drop beams an still keep the ride quality

 

hell no no lowering for this guy lol I like a truck to be a truck not a car lol

 

How would an explorer axle lower the Ranger???? Ride height is dependent on the suspension, not the axle.

 

ok I found one whoo hoo no need to swap axles just the inners I am excited I really didn't want to do a axle swap

 

a ranger has a slug under spring axle an a explorer has a over slug axle
so if u put the axle on top of the spring it will still drop without anything being done to the suspension
