well, got home from school today and there was a 25lb box of injectors sitting on the steps! hopefully they will be going in next week if i survive my organic chemistry exam thursday night. can someone pm me a good set of install directions?? thanks.
nope, RDS stage 1's from Diesel Performance Plus. Thanks for the links to the install directions. My Wildman chip also came in today. any install directions for that??
Unbolt from the top of the curve down on the wheel well, unbolt connection to PCM, pry plastic wheel well down and slide out the PCM. Pull the cap off of the plug connector on the backside of the PCM, (I would take the PCM apart to be able to get to both sides of the chip connector, it makes it easier but you don't have to) use a small flat balded screw driver and scrap off the connectors, then use a small piece of Scotch Brite pad and the screw driver to clean the connectors REAL good, then put electornics cleaner or brake cleaner on a small rag and wipe the connectors off (DON'T SPRAY brake cleaner into the PCM "WIPE IT" on with a rag). Put the PCM back together, re-install it in the truck and re-connect it. Bolt the wheel well back up.
Now, pull the drivers side kick panel off, remove the nuts holding on your E-brake, pull it out of the way, route the wires for the chip from where ever you want the switch down to the E-brake area, route the wires inside the kick panel area and plug in the chip. Start it up, and test drive it before securing the E-brake and kick panel, just incase. Re-install E-brake and kick panel and your done.
Let us know how it runs, and how much smoke you can make!!!
I remember when that 25lb box was on my front door. I pulled my truck into the barn and started working on it til like 10pm. I got 1 side done and figured it was a good place to stop.
The injectors install isnt that bad at all. Oh and one thing I found that worked VERY well to pull the oil/fuel out of the rear cylinders what a turkey injector. Its a huge syringe that has a big metal needle that fits great into the little hole. I had one laying around the shop and by luck I found it and it worked.
Just take your time with it, everything is easy to get to except those back valve cover bolts, but a variety of extensions and drive sizes make it a lot easier. Have fun with the install, from the time I started til I stoped it took me about 7 hours. Some have done it faster but it made me feel good when I found out that ford gives their mechanics 7 hours for labor to install them.
oh, i cant wait to dive in. tuesday of next weeks lookin like the day to do it. possibly thursday. ive got two friends helping me who are very good with diesel engines and have done this before. im going to try to do as much of it as possibly by myself, but itll be nice to have them there for plan b! anyone have pics/tips as to mounting the switch for the chip?? install time for that? thanks for all your help, guys!
You will be able to get done a lot faster. That 7 hours was me by myself never doing this before.
I have my switch mounted on the lower side of the dash out of sight. I like it there so people dont mess with it. Most dont even know what it is anyway.
I beg to differ, his last post was 04-01-2007, 11:33 AM, here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/597673-turbo.html. He is still a member, just on deployment on his carrier. God Bless him and keep him and all the other service men and women safe.
